General Notes

Until 1995, this bird and the Saltmarsh Sparrow were considered to be a single species, the Sharp-tailed Sparrow. After Sharp-tailed Sparrow was divided into two separate species in 1995, this species was officially known as Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow.  In July, 2009, the common name was changed to Nelson's Sparrow, as the former was considered unnecessarily cumbersome.
