    2 surprises

    Hi,

I received the following note from the US Bird banding Lab:

"Permit XXXXX has submitted bandings of a LeConte's Sparrow (1921-86018) and a Yellow-throated Vireo (1921-86213).  This is the first LCSP banding in Quebec since 1966 and the second only YTVI."

LeConte was banded fall of 2006 and Yellow-throated Vireo fall of 2007.  Both were banded here close to Ville-Marie.

That's fantastic news Jonathan.  I'm hoping to confirm nesting of LeConte's Sparrow at the marsh this spring.  Apparently, only a handful of nests have ever been found for this species in all of North America!

I never found a nest, but I was able to confirm successful breeding with adult carying food.  Good luck

You don't need to be close to a marsh to confirm nesting.  You just need a field where hay grows on clay.  Some beef farmers cut the hay in july (the old style)!; that would be the best place to search in my opinion.  And it's way easier to walk a field than to walk a marsh.
