    Re: Yellow-bellied Flycatcher - Hilliardton Marsh - May 24.

Markus, this is one of the warbler species. It's called "Common Yellowthroat" By the way, I screwed up the Marsh Madness date. It was Saturday the 29th.

Nice sighting Serge. As far as I know, this is the most northerly sighting in Timiskaming, at least in recent years.

    Whip-poor-will - Twin Lakes

A contact heard a very persistent Whip-poor-will from his house at Twin Lakes 2 nights ago, (for the first time this year, I believe). (Monday the 5th July 2010)

He had heard them there in years past. One of these evenings, I'll have to go nearby and listen for it. I have not personally heard one in quite a while.

Friday night and saturday night should be good; warm and no wind.

Yes, Friday night was good. Although it was not as close as I would have liked, I heard it calling repeatedly. I had not heard that call for a few years.

    Eastern Wood-pewee - Kap-Kig-Iwan Park Today

I saw and heard one today from a distance. I also heard 2 others. I have pictures of a mostly silhouetted flycatcher that perched on a snag for a good while, flying out and coming back a few times. I never did hear that specific bird calling, so I am uncertain as to what it is. It has 2 wing bars, and an orange lower mandible, does not appear to have an eye-ring, but seems to be lacking the slight crest of a pewee. I saw Black-capped Chick-a-dees, Red-breasted Nuthatches, American Redstarts. I was hoping to see my first Gray Catbird of the year, but there were workers were I was going to watch, so I went for the Pewees instead. Maybe next time.
