I have been somewhat remiss of late in reporting my new arrivals. I have had Ovenbirds calling at my house since last Tuesday, May 11, Martin Jean reported to me that he saw Peregrine Falcons in Hudson Twp. on Saturday May 1. Also, (I had to check my notes on this one) I had my first Savannah Sparrow on May 4 in Casey Twp. By that date they had not yet made it as far north as Earlton, but there were several calling in the south half of Casey Twp.
I have also been seeing large flocks of small birds in some of the fields south of Earlton for the last couple of days on my way in to work in the morning. Although I have not had time to stop and try to get the binoculars on them, my general impression is that they are Pipits. They are smaller than Snowbirds, and medium to dark colour overall. It is possible, I suppose that there still may be some Horned Larks hanging around, but I doubt it. I'll let you know if I can get a postive ID on them.
