what and exciting time you are all having..

I can't believe Serge's 'luck'. Have you covered yourself in suet, then rolled around in seed and insects or what?????

I am only seeing the usual birds...and many of them in my yard and on the lake. The only exciting unexpected was seeing a bird fly flying towards me as I was working at the kitchen counter. It landed on the screen and was clinging to it. I thought it was looking for insects. It flitted about the screen then after a few minutes dropped from view. I figured that something was wrong with it and went out to check. Sure enough it was sitting on the wheel of the BBQ table. I picked it up and noticed one eye closed but saw no other signs of injury so I took a couple of pictures  and placed it under the car port in a window feeder. A couple of hours later it was alert and sitting on the edge...then watched it fly away. Oops forgot to say it was a Philadelphia vireo.

Also I have lots and I mean lots of Purple finches, siskins and American Goldfinches at the feeders... I fill the feeders constantly!!!

Mark, it was nice seeing you last week.

I guess I have had Horseshoes in a place that should make sitting uncomfortable... As far as the birds at home, nothing exotic. We have not yet seen a single Purple Finch at our feeder. I saw only one so far this year, for a fleeting moment, in our Crab-apple tree this spring. We are getting over a dozen American Goldfinch at the Niger seed. The odd sparrow (Song, lately) feeds from the finch seed on the ground that is not carried away by the 2 to 3 Chipmunks that visit. A pair of Mourning Doves hangs around from time to time. We've been host to a pair of Robins that raised a batch in the tree under our bedroom window, and now there is another pair sitting on a nest in the vines against our shed. A pair of Tree Swallows chose our bird house this year, and the female is kept very busy feeding the young, some of which are flying now. A few Cedar Waxwings have been feeding on the flowers in our Cotton Easter tree, and the hummingbirds are still coming, although there is a lull in the action right now. Young Grackles and young Robins are continuously chasing their parents for food in the back yard. Occasionally, some Crows & Ravens get dive-bombed by unhappy grackles nearby. We haven't been using sunflower seed yet, so our pigeons have not been pestering us too badly.
