    great blue heron - swastika

Caught this guy by surprise. He was busy scarfing down a 10 inch fish and didn't notice me before I froze with camera up. He was about 30m away and when I finally finished shooting and moved, a wood duck took off from a tree about 15m away - wish I had looked up before I moved - could have had a great duck in a tree shot.

Nice shot! Not often one gets close enough to those fellows. I got lucky today, and saw my first & second Broad-winged Hawks of 2010 in Casey Twp. I got some branches in perfect focus on one of them, but managed an OK picture on the second. I also got a long shot at my first Greater Yellowlegs of 2010 at Hilliardton Marsh. Here they are.

Nice pics Serge. What camera are you using? I bought a Lumix FZ35 a couple of months ago and am having lots of fun with it. It has an 18x zoom and more bells and whistles than I know what to do with. It will take my feeble brain a while to learn all the functions and how to use them to best advantage. It's not as good as an SLR but is a far cry from my Canon pocket camera.

It's an Olympus SP-570UZ. It has 20X Optical Zoom, and I have a 1.7X Extender lens attached. I've been dreaming DSLR lately, but it may be a while before I take that expensive plunge. I was thinking of going for a Canon 7D with a 100-400 Zoom, but the lesser "Evil" may have to be a Canon T2i with a Sigma 150-500, and maybe a 1.4X Extender. Oh well! I dream on.
