While bird numbers are still very low we had a lot of arrivals this week . Thunder cape bird observatory reports that this is the lowest number of birds on record for this date and we would agree although we did have some excitement as the terra students were able to see a lot of firsts this week. May 18th yielded our fisrt veey chstnut sided warbler red eyed vireo and savannah sparrow on the 19th we had our first eastern kingbird and on the 20th we had a blackpoll warbler wilsons warbler and a canada warbler. The 21st was another bitg day as had our first swainsons thrush as well as our first orange crowned and tennessee warbler. While not rarities the kids were dazzeled by the capture of a male and female evening grosbeak and a blue jay . I was saddened to read that the bobolink has been added to the species at risk list as this species has been quite visible at the marsh this week. Marsh madness is next saturday and the timiong may be perfect as we are still hoping for a big push as the warblers will hopefully be here in goiod numbers hope to see you out on saturday may 29th. Happy birding.
