Hunting yesterday at dusk in the ditches along Hwy. 65 just west of the Thornloe highway in Henwood Twp. From the low flight, just skmming the grass tops, and overall size, I would have called it a Short-eared Owl. But the bird was perched on a highway sign at one point, and there were conspicuous ear tufts visible when it was perched. It was not a large enough bird to be a Great-horned, so I'm left with Long-eared as the only remaining choice.
