The House Wren was recorded on April 30th. The observation is entered into eBird, but has not been made public yet as it is still under review.

  • Another Successful Birdathon

Well, another Great Canadian Birdathon has been completed. Team "Not Two Swifts", consisting of Serge Gendron, Mark Milton and myself, spent the day of Sunday, May 28th trying to find as many bird species as we could in south Timiskaming during a single 24-hour period. The Great Canadian Birdathon (formerly the Baillie Birdathon) is the ...

  • Re: DUNKIN CROWS

Ha ha!  If you're going to feed the crows, Mike, maybe you should try to give them food with a bit more moisture content.

  • Re: Possibility of Black Vultures in Timiskaming

Thanks for the heads-up Cliff.  I've put the word out to the local birding community. After this alert we will all be more vigilant for this species in Timiskaming.  Black Vultures have been observed in southern Ontario every year now for the last number of years, so it is not out of the realm of possibility for some to turn ...

  • Possibility of Black Vultures in Timiskaming

This message was sent to me by email from my friend Cliff Reuer yesterday.  Although Cliff is not an "avid" birder, he is familiar with most of our local species, and has good instincts for rarities."You asked me to keep you informed if I saw anything interesting in nature and this morning was one of those occasions. We ...

Very nice shots of the Parula and Bay-breasted, Mike. For those not on eBird - here's the link to his checklist: http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist/S36993608 I too had a warblerfest moment today, but alas, although there were a great many individuals, I only had 8 species.   But the warbler migration has finally begun in ...

  • Re: Migration Monday - April 17, 2017

This is being posted on behalf of the author, Mark Milton. Well, I'm finally batting over .500 on my predictions, as last week saw five of my eight predicted species arrive, as well as three bonus appearances.  Casey township was the hotspot of the week, and that is where Mike Werner found the expected Rusty Blackbirds on April ...

Hi Gert. I too had my first White-throated Sparrow on the 22nd. Not heard a Loon yet, though. Lots of stuff seemed to move in this past week, including larger numbers of the few vanguards we'ed had of some species last week. As far as I know, noone has seen a Bluebird yet, so keep a lookout for them
